Timing belt replacement is one of those maintenance items that we all don’t look forward to, but must be done to keep our vehicles on the road. Manufacturers recommend replacement at 90,000 to 105,000 miles. Today's engines are interference engines, which means if the belt brakes, the pistons and valves will be introduced to each other in a way never intended, requiring a very expensive repair or a new engine. Most timing belt engines also use the belt to drive the water pump and at that mileage it’s a great time to replace that while we’re there. The best thing about having this maintenance done is you get to quit worrying about it for another 100,000 miles, worry free repairs, that’s what we do.
